Elmer Clyde Cline, 79, of Simi Valley, California, passed away on August 6, 2014 in Woodland Hills, California, Funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Monday, August 11 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Glendale. Visitation will be held from 9:00-9:30 AM in the Relief Society room at the church prior to the funeral service. Rose Family Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. Elmer was born in Alton, Illinois to Alonzo and Ora Cline on October 31, 1934. He went to local schools in the country and city and at age 15, opted to leave school and open a small café funded by his father. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines at age 17 with his mother’s permission and served honorably in Korea where he fought, spent 14 months on the front lines including the night of the cease fire. Subsequently, he returned to Alton, married Elva Groshan and had two children, David and Judy. In the late 1950’s he moved his family to Southern California where he owned and operated a small restaurant in Signal Hill. Following family changes, he became a salesman for industrial supplies and packaging for the rest of his working career. Elmer is survived by his wife, Karen of Simi Valley; his children David and Irina Cline of Anchorage, Alaska; Judy and John Munoz of Santa Rosa, California; and Krisztina and Shawn Mercer of West Hills, California; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jim Moore of Livermore; Brandon Ercole of Canda, David Munoz of Santa Rosa, Alison, Shannan, Mitchell and Anna Mercer of West Hills; great-grand son Jack Moore; by his siblings Norma and Fred Frailey of Sikeston, Missouri; Greta and David Brimer; Sandra and Michael Warren, Lon and Debbie Cline, Joseph and Peggy Cline, Steven and Beth Cline, Daniel and Michelle Cline, Cheryl and Richard Hodson, Tim and Tammi Cline, and brother-in-law Edward Ringering—all of Illinois. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine Ringering, Evelyn Beck and Jenny Olmstead. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have extended words of encouragement and love as well as to the doctors and nurses of Kaiser, Woodland Hills for their compassionate and tender care.
