Marvin Arch Whitten, 83, of Simi Valley, CA died October 3, 2014 at home surrounded by family. He was born January 7, 1931 in Greenville, GA to George and Florrie Whitten. After graduating High School in 1948 he joined the Marine Corp. He served more than 22 years and was a Korean and Vietnam war veteran. He was commissioned and retired as a Captain in 1970. He then entered the civilian work force as a Hardware Engineer and retired from Unisys Corporation in 1995. Marvin is preceded in death by his son Marvin Arch Whitten, Jr., his sister Helen Shirey, and brother Melvin Whitten. Survivors include his wife, Anne Whitten, two sons, Phillip Whitten, and Michael Whitten; three daughters, Rosemary Whitten, Debora Greenhalge, and Margaret Eubanks; step-daughter Karen Lyznick and step-son Brian Hall; 23 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Shirley Whitten, two brothers, James Whitten and Fred Whitten; four sisters, Louise Pike, Patricia Hunt, Bessie Russell, and Diane Phillips. Marvin had a great love for life. His family was his world. He loved being with them as much as possible and he especially enjoyed spoiling the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had many wonderful times with friends camping, boating, fishing, and traveling the world. The family is grateful for the compassionate and loving care he received from Adventist Hospital Hospice. Private family Graveside Services will be followed by a Celebration of his Life at a later date, yet to be determined.
