L. Eugenia Redmond Simi Valley L. Eugenia Redmond passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on Monday, February 27, 2012 with her daughter Carol by her side. She was 88 years old. Jean was born in Yuma, AZ on December 22, 1923 to Eugene and Opal Steiert. She graduated from Yuma High School where she played the violin and began working for the telephone company as an operator. She became Chief Telephone Operator managing over 70 operators. She married John V. Redmond on October 21, 1944. Jean moved to Los Angeles and continued to work for the telephone company while John went to Europe to fight in WWII. After he returned, Jean worked until she became pregnant. She excelled at her most important job of being a stay at home wife and mother of seven children. Jean was the best cook and baker. In 1969 the family moved to Simi Valley. She still lived in the same home up until her passing. Jean dedicated a lot of her time to volunteer work at numerous organizations, including the American Cancer Society, where she became Service Chairman. In that role she led a group called the Free Wheelers who would provide transportation for Cancer patients to their treatments and would make needed arrangements for various services. She organized various fundraisers and would go door-to-door for donations. In the late 1970's she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Saint Peter Claver Charismatic Prayer Community. She was on fire for the Lord and brought many people to Christ. To her family she was our momma, grandma, wise counselor and friend. She will be deeply missed. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William Steiert in 2011, John, her loving husband of 62 years in 2006, and her first born John V. Redmond, Jr. in 1953 at the age of 6. Jean is survived by her children, son Tim (Bev) Redmond, son Joe (Rose) Redmond, son Mike (Linda) Redmond, daughter Colleen Diaz, daughter Carol Knudsen, all of Simi Valley, and daughter Erin (Paul) Janvrin of Rosamond, CA. Jean is also survived by her 14 grandchildren, Daniel, Christopher, Mikey, Reina, Johnny, Jenny, Jeanette, Joy, Angela, Kristin, Taylor, Ryan, Stevie, and Jamie. She is also survived by her 8, soon to be 9, great-grandchildren with a new baby due in July 2012. She is also survived by her beloved toy poodle Teddy. We were all blessed to have Jean in our lives and she will never be forgotten. The family wishes to thank Dr. George Dichter, Buena Vista Hospice, and Melinda Aguayo for all the help and support during our momma's finally days. Words can not express our gratitude. Visitation will take place on March 1, 2012 from 5- 9pm with a pray vigil and Rosary starting at 7pm at the Rose Family Funeral Home, 4444 Cochran St, Simi Valley, CA 93063. A funeral mass will take place Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Simi Valley, CA followed by a graveside service at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA.
