Obituary of Nell Louise Cook

Nell Louise Walker Cook (Sam), age 89 of Simi Valley, CA passed away on July 13th, 2016 in Moorpark, CA. As per her wishes, there will be no service and she will be cremated and her ashes spread at sea, in Hawaii along with her childhood friend, Mary Greenberg. Rose Family Funeral Home will be handling her arrangements. Nell was born in Blount County, Tennessee to John Roy and Mayme Jones Walker on May 17th, 1927. She graduated from Friendsville High school in 1945 and attended Maryville College. She retired from Rockwell International (Boeing) after 30 years of dedicated service, in 1993. She supported engineering, working on several Apollo and Challenger missions and received the Apollo Achievement Award from NASA in appreciation of her dedicated work toward Apollo 11’s successful achievement of man’s first landing on the moon July 20th, 1969. She lived 25 years in Marina Del Rey before moving to Simi Valley. She enjoyed the beach, sunsets, traveling to Hawaii, biking at the beach and in later years was an avid reader of mystery novels. Nell is survived by her daughter, Joyce Vig of Simi Valley, CA.; her son Larry Walker of Brockton, MA.; her Granddaughter, Erika Lewis and her husband Mark Lewis and her great-grandchildren Joseph Lewis and Eric Lewis of Simi Valley, CA.; and her grandson Keith Vig of Simi Valley, CA. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 19 years, Wilbur S. Cook, her brother, John David Walker, and her lifelong best friend, Mary Greenberg. Memorial donations may be made to the Braille Institute, 741 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, CA. 90029 and Access TLC Foundation, 5400 Atlantic Ct. , Moorpark, CA., 93021.
