How soon will cremation take place?
Our Goal: we will make every attempt to perform cremation within 4 to 5 working days (Monday – Friday) from the date of passing. This is subject to the following happening in a timely manner:
We must meet with you and your family and gather the proper information for the death certificate.
Your loved ones doctor will be sent a form he must complete providing to us the causes of death. Some doctors have taken days to provide these to us.
Others get it back to us the same day or next morning. These causes are typed onto an electronic death certificate and sent to the State of California Department of Public Health for approval. The State can take up to two hours to give us an answer.
If approved we send that electronic death certificate to the doctor for his signature.
If not approved we go back to the doctor and seek further clarifications or different causes and begin the process again. We now wait for the doctor to sign, this can be quick or take days depending on his schedule. Once he signs we send that same document electronically back to the State of California Department of Public Health for approval.
If approved we file and can schedule cremation. Yes the doctor can make a mistake on his signature and it can be unacceptable to the state. If that happen we go back to the doctor and seek his signature a second time.
HOW SOON WILL I RECEIVE THE CERTIFIED COPIES OF THE DEATH CERTIFICATE?
After all the above has been completed, we mail an application along with a check and paperwork to the State of California Department of Public Health and order for you the certified copies. In Ventura County the certificates come back in about two weeks from the date we file and mail the paperwork to them. In Los Angeles County it takes between two weeks up to four weeks from the date we file and mail the paperwork to them.
