Obituary of Jean Thomas Collier
Born October 24, 1930 in Ellston Iowa and passed away February 12,2021 in Simi Valley, California
Preceded in death by his parents Floyd Collier and Sadie Lee Collier, siblings Wilma Collier Stewart, Betty Collier Hudson, and Cleve Collier. Also his wife of 63 years Mary Louise Jones Collier.
He is survived by his three children Catherine Jean Collier Whitham ( Joseph Whitham), Steven Alan Collier ( Deborah Marie Rose Collier), James Thomas Collier ( Betty Tse Collier), 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Born and raised on a farm in rural southern Iowa. The youngest of 4 children, he enjoyed the farm life. He graduated from Ellston High School, and when he was 20 he married Mary, his best friend's sister. He rented land to to farm on his own, but back issues forced him and his growing family to move to town in search of different employment. Him and 2 friends headed to California looking for work. Jean got hired at the Chevrolet Assembly Plant where he worked for 34 years eventually becoming a maintenance foreman. After retirement he and his wife travelled the country in their motorhome until their age made it more difficult. Jean lost his wife and then started showing signs of dementia. He suffered with this for more than 4 years and then finally succumbed to it. He, along with Mary's ashes, will be laid to rest in Ellston, Iowa cemetery.
