Obituary of Christopher John Kupper

Please share a memory of Christopher to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Perhaps a latter-day Peter Pan, Chris was 54 in age but in his active and imaginative mind he was just stepping into adolescence, a free spirit wrapped in his music, trying to make sense of the demanding and confounding adult world. Good times for Chris were family gatherings on holidays. Chris would extend greetings to all of the adults, then settle in with the kids for the real fun.  An avid cyclist, Chris was struck down by a red-light-running hit-and-run driver as he rode his bike in Los Angeles in the early morning of June 22. His organs were donated for transplant and research.

Although childlike in nature, Chris was a multi-talented individual. He was a recording engineer – Neil Young, Eric Burdon, John Fogerty, Trouble, Mr. Big and The Beat Farmers were among the artists he recorded at Indigo Ranch in Malibu and Cherokee Studios in Hollywood – and sound mixer. He also was a journeyman electrician (IBEW, Local 40) and set builder, having worked at all of the major motion picture studios in Los Angeles. As a musician, and music was his passion, he was an accomplished drummer, a fair hand at the piano and keyboards, and could play a little guitar. He cooked and he sewed beautifully, despite never having had a lesson in either discipline.

Chris came into the world Sept. 7, 1966, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Mike and the late Mary Ann Kupper, the younger brother of Daniel (DeDe), the future older brother of Katherine (Frank) Moreno and Sarah (Marc) Pelletier. He was a rollicking uncle to Angie (Matt) Mundt and the late Amanda Kupper, Christian, Rachael, Gabriel and Amelia Moreno, and Sebastian, Sophie and Genevieve Pelletier.  Generous with his time, and money when he had it, Chris was a warm friend, a gentle soul. He was taken from us much too soon.

If you are charitably inclined, please consider a donation in Chris’ memory to the Mary Ann Kupper Scholarship Fund at Louisville High School, 22300 Mulholland Dr., Woodland Hills, CA  91364.

A funeral mass will be held Monday July 19, 2021 at St Maximilian Kolbe Catholic, in 5801 Kanan Rd, Westlake Village, CA 91362 at 10 am.
