Obituary of Albert Inge Teige Sr.
Albert Inge Teige Sr. passed away in the early morning hours of May 6th, 2017 at the age of 95, surrounded by loved ones in Simi Valley, CA.
Although the last years of his life were spent in California, much of his life was split between Norway, where he was born, New York, where he married and raised his family, and California, where two of his children now reside with their respective families. Ever the family man and adventurer, not much could keep him from frequently transitioning between these three places.
Our father was never lacking in his zest for life: dancing with grace to the waltz , traveling around the world multiple times, and imparting his wisdom and life stories to his children and grandchildren. Being born and raised in a loving Christian family on the island of Nerlandsoy off the coast of Norway, shaped the man he was. He received his strength from the good Lord.
During the war, he escaped from Norway and enlisted in the Norwegian Navy in exile. While in port in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he went to a USO dance and set eyes on our Mother, the love of his life, Erna. He frequently went back to Norway throughout his life bringing his children and grand children along to experience first hand the Norwegian culture and traditions. His six grandchildren were the joy of his life and he believed so strongly in each and every one of them and was bursting in pride. He cherished every encounter he had with them, and passed along the family history to all. His strong belief in God was the center of his being. Our father also had a special bond with his Norwegian family members, especially with Kjellbjorn who he often referred to as a son.
Albert‘s four children: Erna Anne, Albert, Emelia, and John and six grandchildren: Michael, Erica, Catherine, Erin, Margaret Rose, and Caileen were blessed to have him as our father and grandfather. He is survived by his sister Agnes (our dear Aunt who resides in Norway), who is the youngest of his siblings.
Pop was a man with no limitations! His endless energy and good old fashion persistence allowed him to accomplish the impossible! There was no such thing as impossible! All we had to do is make an effort and he would figure out how to compete the task! He was always a futuristic thinker-dreamer and doer!!! With Pop anything was possible. All the things Pop touched in his life made the world a more beautiful place for us and mankind. Thank you Pop for showing us the path to betterment! You will be missed by all and we are all greater because of your influence on us! Rest in peace dear father and look after us all and feel good about all that you have taught us.
God bless you Pop and smile as you watch over us, as I smile when I think of you!! Thank you for all your love and hard work- Love always
