I believe Jim and his family lived next door to my family on Cadiz Dr., in Simi. His sister, Jill and I were good friends for years. Nicest family ever. I have fond memories of their parents, Tom and Diane! RIP Jim

And So He Returns...
there's some beauty in death
celebration in the tears
back to his maker
saved for his years
he finds peace
feels the calm
relaxes in the cool
he's left
smiles and laughs
he's created
memories and cheer
this moment i'm sure
he is still crystal clear
resting and laughing
on a beach
in the shade
Mom and Dad
do greet him
with great joy
a smile and a hug
for their first little boy
by their side
he'll remain
until the rest
of us called
make our way
through this fall
until that great moment
in his memory
shine on
we'll smile
laugh and grin
reminisce and recall
and do all those happily
in remembrance of Jim

I met Jim Robertson when I was in junior high school. His younger sister Jill and I had become best friends and soon the entire Robertson family was my second family.
Jim was the oldest child, handsome and rather quiet at first, but as soon as he got used to me being pretty much a constant in the Robertson household his true personality emerged.
Jim was smart and funny and goofy. He was witty with a delightful sense of humor. He was great fun to be around! Jim was also a very talented artist...Not many would know, or remember this, but Bank of A Levy in Simi Valley proudly hung his artwork in their bank.
Jim was also an accomplished welder including welding as a commercial diver and I believe there wasn't much he couldn't do on a construction site. But what I remember the most was Jim's love of his cars, and how he built them himself into truly beautiful low riders.
I bought his pink '46 Chevy about 30 years ago and it still resides in my garage, exactly as Jim built it. When I look at it I remember Jim, my best friend Jill, and childhood with my second family, the Robertsons, it always makes me smile.
Rest in peace Jim. We will miss your kindness and the way you would help others. We will miss your devotion to your family and your church. We will miss your smile.
Know that you are and always will be loved. Kiss your mom and dad for me. ❤

Cousin Jimmy's sense of dry humor was always present when he was around. Jimmy rarely failed to attend a family event and contributed greatly to any gathering with that humor and his good storytelling. He will be sorely missed!

Jim was my oldest brother and I always looked up to him. I admired his many talents and how he followed his dreams. He was truly devoted to his family and to the Lord. He truly lived his values. On top of all this, he had a great sense of fun! I will miss him dearly.

Jim would watch movies with Jill and I several times a month. Front door would pop open and Jim, “HEY FRANKY, leave the gun don’t forget the cannoli”. We loved going back and forth with Godfather quotes... I always enjoyed talking about PVC, hydrolics, World War lI planes at the air show,- Jim taught me how to weld. Jim is the only one I could talk to about religion and politics without getting mad. Jim was my brother...

Thank you for this site. Jim and my brother Craig were good friends, he said such nice things about my brother, and Skeeter. He helped me find Skeeters family and funeral as well. All of us neighbors in our track were such good friends. We talked about the good old days and neighborhood for the past year. He never said a word about his illness. Trooper till the end. I am still shocked and sad. Now, he and Craig and Skeeter are all together again. RIP Jim, you were a kind man.

I remain numb, each time I see Jim's last message to me on the U. S. Militaria Forum, realizing our ongoing dialogue never goes beyond that point, and that I will remain forever ignorant of what he said he was going to e-mail me. I have re-read our many messages on Facebook messenger, where realtime exchanges of commentary, knowledge, and just plain hilarity will forever exist like a good book that can be revisited.
But starting in 1990, it was our in-person encounters at the militaria shows and hours spent on the phone discussing anything from politics, fine art, or our cherished WWII studies to Rocky and Bullwinkle or Rat Fink, that will continue to punctuate the joy I found in my friendship with Jim.
Thank you for being such a pal, Jim. Your spirit lives on in me and in all those you touched, and your many, many buddies in our collecting community will forever miss you and be grateful for the times you spent with us.

I considered Jim my sensei in many ways; he used to laugh at that..he was always kind and helpful. He was a monument to the WW2 militaria world and a true sensei to many of us.
A certain sadness strikes me when I start to text him and realize he's moved up and on.
Miss you bro, George Feliciano.

I know Jim was 68, but to me he will always be that dear sensitive, imaginative little boy. I have a photo, which I hope to find, of him being held as a baby by his mother, Diane. I never heard her speak to him in any way but gently, and I think he absorbed some of that gentleness in his own person.
An early memory was of a time that I was responsible for taking care of him. I think he was two or three years old. Somehow he got away from me and went running down the hill stark naked. I gave chase and when I caught up with him, feeling responsible for his behavior, started to spank him. He didn't cry, but buried his head in my stomach. Pretty soon I could feel his hot tears through my clothes. It broke my heart.
Another early memory: A lot of the family was gathered at Tommy's and Diane's for lunch. Afterward we were invited out to the yard where we watched an elaborate drama enacted by Jim and Steve. They had large paper bags over their heads, to which was attached a long rope. And they were wandering all over the yard - maybe in search of undersea treasure? Later when I learned that Jim was diving for a living in Texas, I thought, it all began in their backyard!
Once when Jim and Steve, maybe in second or third grade, were visiting Granny and Poppa in Baja California, Jim was looking in our old fine-print Encyclopedia Brittanica, trying to help Steve find information on dinosaurs. Granny tried to direct him to some simpler reading, to which Jimmy replied, "Oh, Steve doesn't like that Dick and Jane stuff."
Jim had a hearty laugh. He loved to hear stories about old times, especially about his father, Tommy. We had many good visits on our way down to family reunions near San Diego. Whenever he could, he attended reunions and family parties. It's hard to think that next time we gather at Gerry's and Colleen's to meet the relatives coming from Denmark, Jim won't be there. But he will be in our memories!

Hi cousin Steve and family, thanks for putting together this great tribute to your amazing brother. Your obituary is so beautifully written, it really helps remind me of all the wonderful things about cousin Jim. And I was so happy to see many of his illustrations! I didn't realize how talented he was. I'm so glad that he chose to go to the Utt family reunions some years with Merilie and others. It was a great opportunity for us to get caught up with him, and to remember what an all-around neat and decent guy he was. We will miss him for sure!

I added a few photos of Jim’s artwork here, but this is my first attempt to work on This tribute, so I hope it comes through okay.
The unfinished painting of the spooky graveyard scene was done when Jim was in his early twenties, and he was thinking about trying to sell artwork to CarToons Magazine. I’ll add some other things he was preparing for this market later. I went with him to Peterson Publications on Sunset Strip to show them his samples. The editor liked them, and he made some suggestions to Jim. After thinking it over, Jim decided that if he had to work to order, it would take all the fun out of drawing for him so he gave up the idea of an art career.
I added 3 drawings Jim did in his late 20s to illustrate things found in the Book of Revelations from the Bible, and a poster he was working on later on for a church youth group.
I will continue to add art and photos as I have time, and try to do a better job. Steve Robertson
