My deepest condolences to the McGowans. I haven't spoken to Sean regularly since he'd lived in LA; so, a long time. We met at Simon's Rock when we were 17 and went to Bard together. He was a great friend during my best years; our best years. We loved and respected each other. Sean was a rock star in his twenties, back when life was a moveable feast, no doubt about it. He absolutely sparkled with optimism and it was a beautiful thing to behold.
I read about his death in The Bardian magazine today, a year and one month after his death and four days after his birthday. Mine is the 18th, the day after his. It was seemingly nothing but laughs and good times when we were together. We drifted apart when life inevitably got tougher; maybe we couldn't bring ourselves to face those dreary things, so we just left everything floating there in that golden past.

As Sean's 'old' guitar teacher, I'm so very thankful that he reconnected with me in friendship after many years, and that he continued to keep in touch.
When his calls stopped suddenly, I feared that something had happened, and I've only now found out what that was.
Sean was a most special man, a rare and sincere intellectual, with a willingness and the boldness to openly express his thoughts.
I am saddened beyond words over his passing. I will always treasure his friendship and memory.
I send my most heartfelt sympathies and prayers to his loved ones.
May God bless you all, always.
With all love,
Bobby Hansmann

Sean will be missed. He and I often kept in touch, always having a laugh over the shenanigans of our childhood to current topics in the news, I'm going to miss our conversations. We will keep the McGowan family in our thoughts and prayers
