Obituary of Jim Hess
Jim Hess, born on October 12, 1948, in Long Island, New York, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 29, 2024, in Woodland Hills, California. He was 76 years old.
Jim, the second child of George and Olga Hess, grew up in a military family with his
three siblings. After high school, he proudly served his country as a Specialist 5th Class Officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, dedicating three years to military service. Jim received The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Sharpshooter Rifle Medal. After returning from the war, Jim settled in California, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Jim built a remarkable career with the United States Postal Service, working for an
impressive 44½ years. During this time, he formed lasting friendships with his
coworkers and earned the respect of those around him. Outside of work, Jim was a
devoted Dodgers fan who loved attending and watching games on television. The
Dodgers 2024 World Series Championship win brought him great joy. He also loved
classic westerns, especially those featuring John Wayne, and cherished listening to the music of Elvis Presley. Jim also enjoyed playing the California Lottery and was thrilled to see Donald Trump win the recent presidential election.
Jim was married to his beloved wife, Marina, for 21 years. Together, they raised their daughter Madison, who lovingly cared for him. He was also a loving father to Kellie (husband Randy) and Jay (wife Desiree) from his first marriage. Jim’s family grew to include a granddaughter, Kristina (husband Jake), seven grandsons, Conner, Riley, J.J., Preston, Mason, Luke, and Nash, and two great-granddaughters, Cali and Isla, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Jim was known for his humor, honesty, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
His presence brought light and laughter to those who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on December 21, 2024, at 3:30 pm at Forest Lawn
Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, California, to honor his life and legacy. May Jim’s
memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
