Obituary of Robert Davis Sharp

Robert “Bob” Davis Sharp of Arleta, California, completed his journey here on earth early Friday morning December 13, 2024 at the age of 101 in Simi Valley, California.

Robert was born on May 13, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leah Davis Sharp and Harold Sharp. He was the second of two children, with an older brother named Harold Lorenzo Sharp (Lorry).

Robert's early life was marked by his parents' divorce and frequent moves within Salt Lake City. Despite these challenges, he fondly remembered his childhood and youth, filled with friendships, adventures, and a deep appreciation for his mother and extended family who provided him with a loving and supportive environment.

Robert graduated from West High School in 1941, where he participated in the ROTC program. He then worked various jobs before enlisting in the military. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, flying the P-47, P-39s and P-51s. He continued his military career in the Air National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after 13.5 years of service.

Robert attended the University of Utah, earning degrees in Education and Mechanical Engineering. He then worked for Lockheed Martin for 33 years, contributing to various aircraft programs, including the L-1011, F-104, U-2, and SR-71 Blackbird.

After returning from the war, Robert married Jacqueline Devereaux on September 12, 1946. Together, they raised three children: Carrie, David, and Kelly. Jackie and Bob were later sealed for time and all eternity on their 41st wedding anniversary 1987 in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jackie and Bob celebrated 74 wedding anniversaries together before Jackie’s passing November 4, 2020.

Robert was a dedicated family man.  He was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano/organ, and gardening. He was also always working on projects around the house.

Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on through his descendants and the countless lives he touched throughout his long and fulfilling life.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother, wife, and many other beloved family and friends. He is survived by his three children, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
