Obituary of Dr. Lowell D. Pincock

Dr. Lowell Dalling Pincock passed away on June 9, 2015 at Simi Valley Hospital with his family at his side. Born to George Sanford and Luamelia (Dalling) Pincock in Sugar City, Idaho on September 16, 1924, Lowell grew up in Rexburg in the shadow of Ricks College (now known as BYU Idaho). Encouraged by his parents to further his education, in 1942 he enrolled at Ricks College and joined the Naval Reserve. The following year he was called into active duty in the Navy V-12 unit at Idaho State University where he enrolled in pre-medical/pre-dental courses and received his B.S. degree. After graduation, the Navy sent him to the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington D.C. where he graduated with his D.D.S. in 1948. It was while he was in his first year at Georgetown that Lowell met his beloved Karma, introduced to him by his brother as “the cute little Robinson girl.” He had a hard time getting a date with her, though, because she was very popular and her calendar always seemed to be full. A couple of months in advance, in exasperation, he asked her, “Well, are you busy on New Year’s Eve?” Once he worked his way into her social calendar, they dated and eventually fell in love. They were married on May 29, 1946. After completing dental school, he was appointed to an Oral Surgery internship at Queens General Hospital in New York City, followed by a 3-year fellowship in Oral Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. After only a year, he was called back to active duty for two years and was stationed in San Diego, California serving as a dental officer. After his two-year stint, he returned to the Mayo Clinic to complete his residency and in addition, earned an M.S. degree from University of Minnesota. He returned to California in 1954 and joined Dr. Barkley S. Wyckoff’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice in Santa Barbara, where he and Karma lived and raised their four children. Lowell loved living in Santa Barbara and summering at their cabin in Island Park, Idaho. Another thing that brought him great joy was his horses. He loved riding and even trailed his horse up to the cabin in Idaho for many years. Lowell was very active in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a bishop and in various leadership positions. In 1989, he and Karma served an 18-month mission to Bermuda. Most of all, he loved his family. He lovingly cared for Karma for many years through her fight with Alzheimer’s. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dee (Hazel), Lionel, and Garth; sister Phyllis (Leland) Harward and an infant sister who died at birth. He is survived by his children Madeline (Richard) Winmill, Jim (Kathy) Pincock, Sylvia (Roger) Gale, and Alice (Bob) Peterson; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Ressa Pincock. The family would like to extend great appreciation to the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living who lovingly took care of him for several years. They became part of his extended family. There will be a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday, June 15 at the LDS chapel located at 5028 Cochran Street in Simi Valley with the funeral following at 10:00. There will also be a grave-side service at 2:30 at the Santa Barbara Cemetery on 901 Channel Drive for those who cannot make it to the funeral in Simi Valley.
