Obituary of Bertram Dallek
Please share a memory of Bertram to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bertram Dallek, 88, of Reseda California passed away on August 30, 2015 at the Los Angeles Jewish Home, where he has lived the past six years.
Bert was born in Brooklyn New York to Irving and Sylvia Dallek, the youngest of four children. He went to high school at Brooklyn Technical High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He was awarded his high school diploma in 1945, while serving in the Navy. He was trained as a diesel mechanic and spent the last part of his service on the USS New Jersey, during the occupation of Japan. At the end of his service in the U.S. Navy, he attended college for a year. He then began a career in jewelry manufacturing until 1976. He also worked in the garment industry, and while in retirement, as a security guard.
Bert married his childhood friend Roslyn in 1948. They relocated to Oceanside New York in 1950, where they raised three children. In 1976 they moved to Rancho Bernardo California and then relocated to Simi Valley in the mid-1990s. They lived there, until they moved to Reseda in 2009.
Bert is survived by his children Robert Dallek of Huntington NY, Susan (Bruce) Cohen of Newbury Park, CA and Michael Dallek (Debra Stern) of Chicago IL; as well as grandchildren Michal (Daniel) Shuldman, Seth Cohen, Shoshana Cohen, Jacob Dallek, Aaron Dallek and Ben Dallek and his two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Roslyn as well as his siblings and parents. Bert was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He enjoyed playing cards, but especially loved fishing. He missed those activities as his health declined. He was a kind and caring man and especially loved by his grandchildren.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday September 2 at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed at his daughter’s home until Friday morning.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Los Angeles Jewish Home or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
