Obituary of Robert Saldino
Robert Saldino Jr. (81) was called home after brief illness on November 12, 2017. Family was blessed to be at his side at the time of his passing. He was born on April 7, 1936 in Simi Valley to Robert Saldino Sr. and Delores Valdez.
Robert enjoyed reading and kept himself informed of news, legislation and government. He had many careers in his life; Manager of Robinson & Lamey in Piru, Owner of his trucking company and finally owner/operator of trucking in Oregon. He was a lifetime member of the Teamster Union.
He was born and raised in Simi Valley and attended Simi Valley High School. He married Margaret Acosta in 1955 and shortly thereafter joined the US Army as a paratrooper. Together they raised their five children. They later divorced but remained close friends with deep respect for each other. Robert moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where he resided for over thirty years. He loved the farm on which he lived, he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed the outdoors and solace that living in Oregon provided. He and friends Jim and Sandy Willeford spent many a day maintaining the farm – oh how he loved that riding mower. Amazingly he continued to go to the gym and keep physically fit – even his illness wouldn't stop him.
In retirement, he dedicated his time serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree Knight and held the title of Faithful Navigator of Assembly # 2437 Grants Pass, Or. He was a longtime parishioner and usher at St. Anne Catholic church in Grants Pass. His greatest joy was the brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus. He loved his charity work and spoke often of how rewarding it was. He took so much pride in church activities and the friendships he had made.
Robert is survived by his children: daughter Elizabeth Garcia (Joey), sons;Anthony (Robin), Daniel, Michael Saldino, son Robby Murphy, Aunt Margaret Renteria, sister Linda Larsen, brother Henry Diaz. He leaves grandchildren Bear (Emigdio) Fuentes, Lisa, Monique, George Perez, Cara Saldino Fennessy, Sterling (Drew) Saldino, Sara Swanson (Blake), Robyn Saldino, Marshall Murphy (Magen), Cheyenne Murphy, Jade Murphy, Crystal Murphy, Jeremiah Real, Michael, Coello, Gabriel Saldino (Billie), and 22 great-grandchildren.
