Obituary of Sally Packard

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sally Flynn Packard died on October 23, 2012 at her home in Thousand Oaks of causes related to diabetes. She was born in Levittown, Pennsylvania on September 10, 1958 to Dennis E. Flynn and Naoma Jean Kundert, the fifth of seven Flynn daughters. Sally grew up in the Midwest, graduating from high school in Naperville, Illinois. She then attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University where she studied English. In 1981 she married Carlisle Packard whom she met while they were attending college together. Together they had six children: Miriam (Ryan Hermansen), Thousand Oaks; Andrew (Brenda Aguilar), Provo, Utah; Amanda, Rexburg, Idaho; Aaron, San Luis Obispo; and David and James, Thousand Oaks. Sally's greatest work and highest priority were her family. She happily sacrificed to adopt, educate and travel with her children and was an exacting but genial and tolerant mother to them, an affectionate and devoted confidante and companion to Carlisle and a pushover to her grandchildren. Even in declining health, she energetically undertook many projects for the benefit of her family and others, whether it was building doll furniture, making award-winning Halloween costumes or designing and overseeing the renovation of her house. Sally was a skillful and tasteful cook and a prodigious and incisive reader. She read Pride and Prejudice once a year since she was 13. Sally faithfully held many positions of leadership and service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a quiet but unshakable faith in Christ. All close to her will miss her love, devotion, intelligence and mischievous wit. Sally is survived by her husband, children, three grandchildren (Ava, Seth and Kate Hermansen) and her sisters Kathy DeGroot, Pamela Flynn, Nancy Thurston, Patricia Flynn, Suzanne Flynn and Stacey Flynn. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services for Sally will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1600 Erbes Road, Thousand Oaks. The family will receive visitors at viewings at the church from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26 and from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. before the funeral. Burial will be at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Diabetes Association or the Humanitarian Relief fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
