Obituary of Barbro Lisbeth Carlson
Please share a memory of Barbro to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbro Lisbeth Carlson, also known as Liz, of Canoga Park CA passed away peacefully on September 14 2015 at the young age of 73, with her two loving daughters and granddaughter by her side. Liz was born on March 29, 1942 in Lidkoping Sweden to Anna-Stina and Erik Hagstrom, and grew up in Trollhattan Sweden.
Shortly after graduation, Liz put her dreams in motion to become a stewardess. Speaking little English, she boarded a plane for Seattle, Washington. Within 3 months she achieved her goal, becoming a stewardess for United Airlines, and her life took flight, literally. She married Ingvar Carlson, had two daughters, Anette and Yvonne, and began a very active life of travel and fun, remaining forever friends with Ingvar after their divorce. If the family didn’t go to Hawaii or Florida for the weekend, they were sure to be found on a sailboat, off-roading, river rafting, water skiing, or snow skiing. They also managed to fit in going to Sunday horseshows to watch their daughters compete with their horses.
Liz’s life passion at a very young age was “anything airlines” and stayed in the business for over 40 years. Over these years, she worked for National Airlines, Pan Am, SAS, and Air New Zealand. This allowed the family to visit Liz’s parents and relatives in Sweden over 26 times before the daughters graduated college. After the airlines, her daughters were blessed to have her work at the same company as they did, Amgen, a Biotech company in Thousand Oaks, for over ten years. Liz was so proud to contribute to something that helped people, and made great friends along the way at Amgen.
Her immediate family always included furry four legged friends, and she always had a special place in her heart for her Doberman Pinschers. Liz also loved spending all holidays with her family, but was particularly known for her extraordinary Swedish Christmas dinner. The children and grandchildren loved her Swedish baking as well and the children always called her “Mormor” (mother’s mother in Swedish).
Liz became younger as she grew older, enjoying rock and roll concerts and houseboat trips with her daughters’ and friends. As was typical for Liz, right up to the end in her battle with cancer, this summer she went with her family on a houseboat trip, an RV trip to Yellowstone National Park, and Hawaii, her favorite place.
She is truly loved and will be dearly missed by her surviving family: Former husband Ingvar, their daughters Anette and Yvonne, and their husbands Tom and Dave, respectively. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Emily, David, Justin, and Kevin, whom she adored very much.
“We, Anette and Yvonne, are so fortunate to have had such great friends and family with all of you, and to have received so much wonderful support during these difficult times. Liz was our mother and our best friend. We know how much she meant to all of us. She will be dearly missed, and lets remember her for the happiness she brought to all of us with her presence…We love you.”
A Celebration of Life for Liz will be held on Oct 4, 2015 at 12:00 pm, at her daughters’ home in Simi Valley. Service will begin promptly at noon.
